Researching media, propaganda, and persuasion in authoritarian countries
I am a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia University's Department of Political Science, where I study media and autocratic politics in the Global South. One strand of my research investigates propaganda, censorship, and media control in authoritarian regimes. The other explores avenues for disseminating reliable political information to citizens in developing countries. I study these topics using a combination of experiments, surveys, and interviews in the field. My research has been published in The Journal of Politics and Comparative Political Studies.Â
Before graduate school, I spent several years working as an investigative journalist in Tajikistan and Timor-Leste. These experiences inspired both my substantive interest in political communication and my commitment to ensuring that research is accessible, engaging, and understandable to a wide audience. I was born in the UK, grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and did my undergraduate studies at Georgetown University.
